Russell Westbrook can be the remedy for the dilemma of the Suns Point Guard

The Phoenix Suns have one of the worst point watch situations in the entire NBA. They not only miss the depth of the Point Guard, but they also miss a starting point guard. However, there remains a free agent who may not be able to intervene to fill that void: Russell Westbrook.

The suns are completely missing in the depth of the point guard.

The Point Guard situation of Phoenix Suns is so bad that they ask Jalen Green and Devin Booker to compete for the role of the main ball handler. Nor is a natural point guard, although they attract the attention of opposing defenses very well and can take place for others in a pinch. However, the suns are still missing proven point guards on their entire selection.

Despite an eccentric game that Suns fan saw first -hand in the play -offs of 2023, Russell Westbrook can still contribute to a solid level. He would probably be a normal rotation player and even a starter on the sun’s spot.

Westbrook does not have a very reliable Jumpshot, but it is still able to make plays for others and to generate rim pressure. Last season he had an average of 6 assists per match in 28 minutes per game while he played in Nikola Jokic next to a ball-dominant playmaker.

Westbrook’s defense has also improved dramatically in recent years. He has shown much more difficulty at that end of the court than he did during his MVP years in Oklahoma City and he even won the clippers some Playoff matches against the sun two seasons with clutch -defensive plays.

Some fans have rumors about Westbrook compared to the previous trade of the Suns for Bradley Beal. There are some comparisons to draw, especially that they are both big names of stars beyond their prime numbers, but still have a big chip on their shoulder. However, the situation would vary enormously from a financial position and in terms of playing style.

Westbrook would probably be willing to sign a minimum deal after this season not to receive little or no interest from the rest of the competition. And his rim attacking play material can supplement players such as Devin Booker instead of colliding with them as Bradley Beal did.

An important thing to note about the fit of Westbrook on the Suns is that he would probably not fit well with Jalen Green. Both are at their best when they attack the edge and neither are reliable external shooters. Placing Green next to Westbrook can replicate the insufficient attacking environment he had in Houston.

Westbrook can also offer Jalen Green some mentorship and teach him to be effective without being too exaggerated about his athletics. Of course, at the height of his own athletic forces, Westbrook was a MVP competition and on average a triple double for several seasons in a row.

However, he has found ways to stay effective and to stay in the competition as he gets older. He used to pass that wisdom to Jalen Green early and help him grow his play.

Westbrook is a nice emergency option to have at Point Guard. He can sometimes make frustrating decisions, including doubtful Scottish selection and Crunch Time turnover. But he also makes up for those plays with brilliant plays that others simply cannot make. He is certainly worth the risk for a minimum contract.
