Rory has worked intensively on the mental aspect before the start of this season, hoping that the work in that area will be of great importance.
Ultimately, he did the right thing and showed mental strength when it mattered most, at Augusta National.
While some believe Rory doubted himself and wasn’t all that optimistic about winning the Masters, McIlroy reveals he was quite optimistic when it comes to Masters and the Ryder Cup.
‘I think I’ve always believed in it [The Masters and Ryder Cup double] was possible – I wouldn’t say it if I didn’t think it was so,” McIlroy said, as quoted by Air sports.
“You have all these goals, these hopes and these dreams every time you turn the page to a new calendar year.
I felt like I had a really good end to 2024 and that I could continue that momentum into 2025. I started the year great and gained confidence early on, and then I’ve kind of just been able to maintain that confidence the whole time.”
Rory’s future
The 36-year-old has had many great seasons and it is very difficult to say which one is his best, but if we sum it all up, most will agree that 2025 was a dream season and that he managed to achieve in that season what he failed to achieve in the previous seasons.
Rory McIlroy can now look into the future much more relaxed, knowing he no longer has the pressure he once had. We’ll see how positively it affects him.
“I might say I won more majors in 2014, but I feel this year is for me [is best] because of the things I felt like I had yet to accomplish in my career – to be able to win the Masters, to win an away Ryder Cup, to win my National Open,” McIlroy said.
