Their sudden split continues to ripple through the tennis world, with Garbine Muguruza sparking new debate.

Former Roland Garros and Wimbledon champions questioned the timing of their surprise decision to part ways, with Alcaraz embracing his career-best season and adding more Majors to his list.
From a purely sporting point of view, the Spaniard seemed to be on solid ground. He finished the year on top, defending the throne against Jannik Sinner and being the second-youngest winner of six Major titles.
Furthermore, the 22-year-old was the dominant figure between April and October, reaching nine consecutive finals and lifting seven trophies, including five major ones. As trust visibly overflowed, everything pointed to continuity rather than change.
However, Alcaraz and Ferrero shocked the tennis world after they announced their divorce after more than seven years. With an incredible season behind us, that’s what makes the split so confusing.
Coaching changes in tennis often follow periods of stagnation, frustration or decline – not moments when a player is flourishing. Carlos and Juan Carlos seemed to represent the ideal balance between trust, structure and freedom.
Now it’s all over, probably thanks to the efforts of the young player’s family to turn the page and move on without a man who gave him so much and created an ultimate champion who was respected both on and off the field.
The measure therefore raises more questions than answers. Is it about some kind of long-term vision or about the dynamics behind the scenes? We have yet to discover it.

Garbine’s response reflects curiosity mixed with disbelief. After all, when success flows, stability is usually valued and cherished. Carlos will enter a new chapter in 2026 and sail through uncharted waters without the most trusted person in his coaching box.
On the other hand, the tennis world remains eager to understand why change seemed necessary, and who or what caused it when everything seemed to be going perfectly, at least on the surface.
The Spaniard will compete at the Australian Open with Samuel Lopez as his coach if he does not change that in the coming weeks and add another big name to his coaching staff.
“Their break took me, like everyone else, by surprise. Carlos is the best player in the world and his season could hardly have been better, claiming a total of two Major titles and eight or ten tournaments.
It’s strange to make a change at such a favorable time. When things are going well, you tend not to change. I would like to know more,” said Garbine Muguruza.
