The Rockies have signed right -handed Xzavion Curry To a Minor League contract, according to his transaction logbook on MLB.com. He threw in the Mexican league since the Marlins released him earlier this year.

Curry, 27, started his career in the Guardians organization and made his MLB debut with Cleveland in 2022. In the coming three seasons he appeared in 50 games (15 Starts) for the club, which threw 129 innings with a 4.53 ERA and 5.19 Siera. He did not miss many bats (15.2% strikeout percentage) or prevents dangerous contact (29.4% ground ball percentage, 44.7% hard-hit percentage), but he threw enough strikes to get through innings and limit damage in a usable degree. Nevertheless, the Guardians designated him last August for assignment and the Marlins filed a claim.

The right -hand side did not last long in Miami and last season threw 18 innings and three earlier this year. All in all, he has an ERA of 4.38 but a 5.12 Siera in innings of 150 MLB. Unfortunately for Curry, he also has an ERA of 7.19 in 76 1/3 innings on Triple-A over the past two years. He has given up 39 walks and 23 home runs while struck only 58, which resulted in a 7.56 FIP. So it was not necessarily surprising when the Marlins released him less than a year after they claimed him.

In seven performances with the Tigres de Quintana Roo in recent weeks, Curry was more successful and placed a 3.44 ERA in 34 innings. For context, the average ERA in the Mexican competition is 5.82 this season. Although the monster was small, his strong show in the south was enough to convince the Rockies to call him. He will now report to the Triple-a albuquerque isotopes, where he will serve as a right-handed depth for MLB’s worst bull pen according to both Siera and Fangraphs War.
