Rob Dillingham still has to earn his stripes

It is a huge coming season for Rob Dillingham with the Timberwolves. Selected eighth general in the NBA design of 2024, his Rookie season was filled with inconsistent playing time and the pines during the play -offs (other than waste time). With Mike Conley a year older, many assume that Dillingham takes some of his minutes away, but it can take some time.

Rob Dillingham may not be for longer minutes to start the season

On Friday, Jon Krawczynski of the Athletics Posted his postbag -answering questions On the Timberwolves. A reader asked when Dillingham will start cutting more in Conley’s minutes.

I think it will take some time, Krawczynski wrote. Dillingham will certainly be in the rotation this season. His speed and play will be calculated to stimulate the attack. Finch strives to play him now that Alexander-Walker is in Atlanta. But he is still young and Conley is one of the players that Finch trusts the most in this team. He will be 38 next month, so he can get more rest days this season, which would open more playing time for Dillingham. Yet the young person will have to earn those minutes.

That may not be what most Wolves fans want to hear. As mentioned, Conley will soon be 38 and a year will be released in which he had an average career-bear 8.2 points. In the play-offs, the 18-year-old veteran shot a miserable 30.2% out of the field.

With a selection that usually remained the same compared to last season, fans Dillingham (together with Terrence Shannon Jr. and Jaylen Clark) see as a young player who can show improvement and therefore also help the team improve. He is certainly more dynamic in the offensive end compared to Conley in this phase of their career.

Dillingham still has to earn the full confidence of Chris Finch

Dillingham will not be 21 to 4 January. In his smoking year, he shot 33.8% from outside, good shy for the 44.4% accuracy he showed in his a year in Kentucky. Keep in mind, however, that Dillingham only tried 74 three-Pointers last season in a year that he didn’t get that much playing time.

Although the light frame of Dillingham and the height of 6 Foot-1 may be able to make a challenge for him to become a plus defender, the total ceiling of Dillingham is currently higher than that of Conley. Now it is about earning the confidence of Chris Finch, something that never seemed to happen last season.
