LFA lightweight champion Richie Miranda retained his title on LFA 215 and scored a unanimous decision in a war with Ilay Barzilay on Friday evening.
Miranda (12-1) sets up a performance for the Ventura crowd, but it was not without adversity. After dominating the first round, he went after Barzilay in the second that almost ended the game at the end of those 5 minutes.
The next three rounds were show of Hart, Gruis and determination of the champion against a formidable opponent in Barzilay. Eventually Miranda took a unanimous decision, retained his title and hopefully hoped a call to the big show.
“All the time I wanted an early interruption, but you know. My stye is about laying fools and that is what I had to do today,” Miranda told Cageside Press after the fight.
“All five rounds.”
The second round was where Miranda wanted to end the fight, but Barzilay was saved by the bell.
“The referee was there. He (Barzilay) gave up a thumb, but I just kept beating him. When I see the referee there, I try to finish it as soon as possible. I know he is ready to get in and that is what I wanted to do,” he said.
Miranda is now on a 6-Fight win-streak with a title and two defenses. If the copper of the UFC looked for their next lightweight star, the time is now to name ‘El Machete’.
“Let’s do it honey! Hey, I bust this thing all night. So you can call me better,” said Miranda.
“My manager is waiting. Cub Swanson is waiting for the phone call!”
Call him Dana. Your next Mexican lightweight star has arrived.
