The 46-year-old Manny Pacquiao gets a second crack in earning a new Riem world championships since they returned to professional boxing.
Manny Pacquiao proved that age could only be a few when he went to a majority of drawing against WBC title holder Mario Barrios in July. In a fight that many spectators scored in favor of Pacquiao, the boxing legend saw in the highest state when he almost won a different championship title.
Pacquiao has been working on the boxing ring since his comeback fight against Barrios. He is ready to launch his own promotion next month, with his eldest son on the inaugural map and remains active in the gym.
Only a few months after his fight against Barrios, Pacquiao is to prove that his last comeback attempt is not a one-off company.
Manny Pacquiao Eyes Rolando Romero for January 2026 Showdown
According to ESPN’s Andreas HalePacquiao’s team will look at a confrontation with WBA Welterweight champion Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero in January.
“We would like to fight again before the end of the year, but the timing did not work,” said Pacquiao’s old adviser, Sean Gibbons.
“2026 will be a new year with a new beginning and hopefully a new opponent. I think the perfect time for Manny to make a statement is January, and I think the perfect opponent is Rolly Romero.”
Gibbons continued to clarify that Pacquiao is active negotiations to return to the Ring against an opponent to be determined in January. Romero is at the top of the wish list of the boxing legend of possible opponents.
The shares of Romero shot up after he defeated Ryan Garcia in New York City earlier this year. Romero earned the then vacant WBA-Welterweight title about Garcia after exhausting Manuel Jaaimes in September 2024.
At the moment Romero and his team have not tackled any speculation of a potential matchup with Pacquiao.
Pacquiao is considered one of the greatest boxers of all time by many, with victories against people like Oscar de la Hoya, Ricky Hatton and Juan Manuel Marquez.
