The Boston Bruins are looking for some scoring help and have turned their attention to Vancouver. According to multiple league sources, including James Murphy of RG.orgGeneral manager Don Sweeney recently checked in with Canucks forwards Kiefer Sherwood and Conor Garland, continuing Boston’s push to add depth to a crowded Eastern Conference race.
One source confirmed that the Bruins were “100 percent calling on both players,” noting that Boston believes an extra offensive boost could help them stay atop the standings. The interest comes even before the injuries to David Pastrnak and Pavel Zacha, which have only intensified the Bruins’ search.
Sherwood has quickly become one of the most talked-about names on the Vancouver Board of Trade. The 30-year-old entered Saturday with 12 goals and 16 points in 25 games while carrying a team-friendly $1.5 million cap hit in the final season of his contract. His production and affordability have caught the attention of several Eastern Conference teams, including the Islanders, Sabers and Red Wings.
However, Garland seems much less available. Despite Boston’s continued interest dating back to 2022, Vancouver continues to view him as a core piece. The 29-year-old has 15 points in 21 games and is only in the second year of his six-year contract. Murphy writes: “They still really view him as a core player and a guy with heart and soul who can score, so they’re not moving him at this point,” the second source told RG. “Obviously, if the Canucks really tank and someone comes out with an offer, you never know.”
For now, the Bruins are keeping a close eye on it, but only one of these Canucks forwards seems realistic in the game.
