Every year Joola Plymouth organizes and runs the Plymouth Junior 4 Star, a fantastic competition that attracts top junior players from across the country over two days, from U13s, cadets and juniors.
Our next Junior 4 Star is the weekend of February 14/15, 2026.
To ensure that we have the right number of qualified referees to enable the smooth running of this tournament. Joola Plymouth is looking to organize another L1 Umpire course which would be a great opportunity for players and also for parents or coaches to gain their Level 1 qualification (formally known as County Umpire). “I was the parent of a junior player when I qualified, so you don’t necessarily have to be a player!” – Jason Cornish Tournament Organizer
The qualification consists of a number of online training courses (Powerpoints etc.) for which all training material is provided, followed by an online (multiple choice) test prior to a practical assessment where you will be observed refereeing matches using your new found skills. We propose that the practical assessment is carried out at the upcoming Devon Junior Championships on Saturday 10th October.e January 2026.
As we are looking for additional referees for the upcoming Plymouth Junior 4 Star, the club will cover the cost of the course and all equipment for anyone willing to qualify and agree to dedicate time to the competition over the weekend of 14/15 February. For those who can help us, food and drink will be provided over the weekend and depending on where you are traveling from, we can help you claim your fuel costs if this has been agreed in advance. For those who would like to take part in this course but are unable to referee for the club at February’s Junior 4 Star, a course fee of £35 will be charged, payable to Table Tennis England.
If you would like to participate in the course, please register by 12e December so that we can determine whether we have sufficient numbers to carry it out.
