QPR cut ties with Morgan Fox at the end of last season after his contract expired at the end of June.

QPR held discussions about extending his stay last summer. However, he ended up through the exit door of the Championship alongside Kenneth Paal, Lucas Andersen and Nathan Shepperd, among others.

Fox, 32, became a free agent and then weighed his options. He was linked with Blackburn Rovers, Hull City and Millwall earlier this year, according to a report from EFL analysisbut nothing came of it on that front.

Wigan Athletic decided to sign him at the beginning of August and he made the decision to move to League One. He signed a two-year contract with the Latics, lasting until 2027.

Fox now works under the management of ex-Plymouth Argyle and Preston North End manager Ryan Lowe. However, it has been a tough start to the campaign for the North West club.

They have won just three of their first twelve games in the league and sit seventeenth in the table. Lowe’s men are just two points above the drop zone after their 1-0 home loss to Wycombe Wanderers last time out.

How is Morgan Fox doing at Wigan Athletic after leaving QPR?

Fox was signed by Wigan Athletic to strengthen their defensive department. He gives them more competition and depth at the back and injects experience into their ranks.

Since his transfer he has had a lot of playing time for the Latics. The Chelmsford native has made 10 appearances in all competitions, nine of which have been in the league.

Fox was sent off against Cardiff City at the end of September and was subsequently suspended. He is now available for selection again but started on the bench in their last match against Wycombe Wanderers before eventually coming on as a substitute.

The former Charlton Athletic, Notts County, Sheffield Wednesday and Stoke City man now faces a battle to get back into the starting line-up. Next up is a home game against Port Vale as they look to return to victory.

Morgan Fox Stats

What next for Morgan Fox after QPR’s summer exit?

Fox will aim to get back into the Wigan Athletic squad. The pressure could increase on Lowe if they cannot turn their fortunes around quickly.

The Latics are winless in their last six games in all competitions. They finished 15th in the third tier last season.

As for QPR, Fox has left behind a QPR team that has thrived under Julien Stephan so far. They are unbeaten in the last six games and will now be full of confidence.

After the international break, The Hoops are back in action this weekend. They meet up with Millwall on Saturday afternoon.
