There will be a desire to kick in the new term, although again securing their championship status is likely to be the original goal. From there, Mousinho will be enthusiastic to see how far he can take this talented group.

But with the season opener against Oxford United who is getting closer and closer, who makes Mousinho’s strongest Portsmouth XI? We look here …

Before you become gritty in the Nitty to choose a perfect Portsmouth XI, it is important to assess the position of the team.

Mousinho has emphasized the importance of signing a new keeper for further depth But Nicolas Schmid remains number one with Ben Killip and Jordan Archer who offer coverage.

In the middle of the back, the options are in abundance, because last season various signing sessions were made to cover injuries. Mousinho is somewhat spoiled with Regan Poole, Conor Shaughnessy, Hayden Matthews and Ibane Batie, while Tom Mcintyre is free to leave.

To the right of the defense, Jordan Williams, Zak Swanson and Terry Devlin are all options, and on the opposite flank Jacob Farrell wants to expel Connor Ogilvie from the starting XI. The Australian arrived highly appreciated last summer, but his injuries meant that Ogilvie held the place and he performed reliable for Pompey.

In midfield, Luke Le Roux and Mark Kosznovsky have joined the ranks. Andre Dozzell remains an option after his new deal and captain Marlon Pack, although Reuben Swann is still one for the future and Abdoulaye Kamara is free to find a new club.

From wide, Adrian Segecic And Florian Bianchini are signed as new options. Star Man Josh Murphy Will want to enjoy another fantastic Portsmouth campaign and Harvey Blair will certainly keep an eye on a season of progression.

In behind the rush hour, Callum has a new competition for a place in John Swift and at the top, Colby Bishop leads the ranks with the promising Thomas Waddingham his backup.

John Mousinho’s strongest starting XI

(4-2-3-1)

Schmid; Williams, Poole, Shaughnessy, Farrell; Le Roux, Dozzell; Segecic, long, murphy, bishop

As touched earlier, Mousinho is spoiled in some areas. It offers him a welcome headache when choosing his strongest Portsmouth side.

In the goal, Schmid is the clear favorite. For him, Williams Swanson and Devlin touch right-back, but a Fit Farrell could be preferred for Ogivlie despite the solid season of the last 2024/25. For the time being, the experience of Poole and Shaughnessy can do great talents in Matthews and Batie, but the young people can become huge assets – especially the Australian asterisk Matthews.

The strongest midfield could prove to be Pompey New Boys Le Roux and Kosznovszky in the long term, but Dozzell was very reliable last season, so the Hungarian may have to fight for his place.

Segecic looked very clear in the preseason and seems to be the striking direct, while Murphy is a shoe for the strongest Portsmouth XI on the left. Between them, the more experienced fast touches.

At the top, Talisman Bishop is very difficult to move, even if a new signing awaits.
