Eddie Howe recently entered his fifth year as manager of Newcastle United.
Saturday, November 8, 2025 marked four years since he took the job.
Newcastle United seemed relegation certain thanks to Steve Bruce and Mike Ashley, Eddie Howe was brought in by the new owners who had only taken over the club 32 days earlier.
This is now a club that has been completely transformed.
But hearing and reading some Newcastle United fans’ comments, you would think Eddie Howe was Sunderland’s manager, as they do.
Anyone who didn’t know the history of what happened would think Eddie Howe was Newcastle United’s biggest problem, rather than the club’s biggest asset.
All managers are open to honest criticism, but for some Newcastle United fans I just can’t believe the vitriol and disrespect they have for Eddie Howe.
For me personally, this equates to a total lack of respect for our great football club and all their fellow fans.
Even if in the match against Sunderland next month, Eddie Howe decided to run onto the pitch in the dying seconds and kick the ball into our net, winning the game for the Mackems, I would still think he was the best manager Newcastle United have ever had, at least in my lifetime.
Yes, Eddie Howe has now finally surpassed Kevin Keegan in my affection and respect, I never thought I would see the day when KK would be second best to me!
Put it this way: if you had fallen into a coma on November 7, 2021 and woke up this morning to find out what had happened to Newcastle United over the past four years, you would think you were still dreaming it all.
Comments I read from this minority of Newcastle United fans pass on as if Eddie Howe is a total idiot. That if only he had chosen this team, this formation, this substitution, Newcastle would without a doubt have won instead of losing and drawn countless games.
None of us know all the ins and outs of players’ physical condition at any given time, the expert medical opinion he gets, the plan he has in his head to balance all these games Newcastle United have on four fronts this season. All this while dealing with injuries to key players, plus the fact that of six summer signings, only one of them had a pre-season with their new teammates, while Eddie Howe’s pleas to sign as soon as possible this summer with the transfer window opening on June 1 went unheeded.
Time and again, when Newcastle’s form has dipped over the past four years, Eddie Howe has had the answers. It’s a bit like a car that doesn’t work properly: once all the parts work well together as one well-oiled unit, the team has so often achieved impressive sets of results. Even this season so far has hardly been the disaster some would like to dream of, reflected in the fact that Newcastle United have won six of their last nine games in all competitions.
Of course we all know, Eddie Howe more than anyone, that results in the Premier League need to improve.
However, there is one man I would trust above all others to make that happen, and luckily he is the one we already have in this position.
I support Eddie Howe, the greatest living Newcastle United manager of all time.
Eddie needs our support and full support, a time to show that we are all united in turning this league season around, not childish insults and football pundits sitting in their bedrooms playing computer games and believing they can do better.
