Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan has created a fearless set for T20 World Cup 2026predictions that include a targeted tactical jab at the Australian pacer Pat Cummins. With the tournament set to kick off on February 7, Rashid’s comments have set the tone for an intense battle between the subcontinental underdogs and the established giants of the game.

During an exclusive interview with Sports Tak on January 30, Rashid was asked to name his four semi-finalists for the upcoming World Cup. In a move that immediately went viral, Rashid deliberately excluded Australia from his list, in direct response to a famous comment from Pat Cummins during the 2024 edition.

“Do you remember the last World Cup in 2024? There was an interview where someone mentioned one team and said he should add the other three,” Rashid was quoted by Sportskeeda.

When asked at the time to name his top four teams, Cummins famously replied: “Definitely Australia, and then you can choose whatever [other three] you want… I don’t care. You can choose.” Rashid reflected this nonchalance in his 2026 prediction, pointedly leaving out the Aussies. His subtle ‘digging’ reflects the growing confidence of the Afghan side, which was famously correct Australia from the 2024 tournament to reach their first ever semi-final.

Rashid named four teams that he believes have the strongest winning players and tactical depth to navigate the 55-match tournament. He predicted that India, Afghanistan, South Africa And England would be the ones to reach the final four. He noted that India were led as defending champions Suryakumar Yadavare the favorites at home, while he remains confident in his own side’s ability to dominate bigger teams. He also highlighted South Africa as a lock to qualify from their group and praised England as a side that consistently performs under pressure. Rashid emphasized that while the team cherishes the memories of their historic run in 2024, they are focused on the competitive nature of today’s game, where any team can win under any circumstances.
