Rangers can’t score on home ice

The Rangers did that become the first team haven’t scored in their first three home games of the season in modern NHL history, and their offensive struggles have been the main reason they haven’t been able to win games.

In their previous game, the Rangers defeated the Edmonton Oilers and should have defeated them handily. Unfortunately for them, Stuart Skinner stole a game for the Oilers, and they couldn’t get one past him as he recorded his first shutout of the season.

While this is likely just an oddly slow start for the Rangers as they will turn around quickly, it is concerning that they have struggled to find production on home ice.

Sam Carrick is off to an impressive start

While fans were hoping they could get more out of their depth this season, one of the most surprising starts has come from fourth-line winger Sam Carrick, who has three assists in his first five games and has been a strong performer on both ends of the ice.

He hasn’t been their best player by any means, but considering how effective he’s been both offensively and defensively, he could prove to be a difference-maker as the season goes on, and he could earn a chance to move up if he remains consistent.

Vincent Trocheck placed on the reserve for long-term injured people

As if their bad luck couldn’t get any worse, it was revealed that the Rangers had placed forward Vincent Trocheck on long-term injured reserve (LTIR).

Trocheck has played two games this season, recording one assist, and hasn’t played since Oct. 9 against the Buffalo Sabers. He will be a huge loss for Rangers in the future as they have had problems scoring. He was a strong contributor last season, scoring 26 goals and adding 33 assists for 59 points in 82 games.

The incredible start of Igor Shesterkin

Another player worth mentioning is goaltender Igor Shesterkin, who has one shutout and two wins in four games this season. He has played incredibly well despite the team’s lack of wins, with a goals-against average (GAA) of 0.76 and a save percentage of 0.972 (SV%).

While it is virtually impossible to maintain such a stature over an entire season, it is promising that he is playing in elite form and giving the Rangers a chance to win every game. If the team can figure out a way to start scoring goals for him and get past this rough start, they could become one of the most dangerous teams in the Eastern Conference.

The Rangers return to action on Thursday (October 16) when they take on the Toronto Maple Leafs in Toronto, hoping to bounce back and pick up a win.
