Busy start to ITTF World Hopes Week in Sheffield – Table Tennis England

Young English trio Jayden Xuan Chen, Dimitar Dimitrov and Amber Lemmon (pictured above) have joined 37 of the world’s best 12-year-olds at the ITTF World Hopes Week at the Elite Training Center in Sheffield.

The players and their coaches arrived from around the world on Sunday and started training on Monday morning with a welcome from the ITTF head coaches.

The first exercise was a ‘top table’ to establish the players’ respective levels and they also completed multi-ball training, with support from all coaches, including GB talent coaches who also gain experience during the week.

Dave Hembrough from our sports science partners Sheffield Hallam University delivered a coach development session that also helped break down language barriers and promote connections between different nationalities. Dave will provide a players session on Thursday.

Coach Ben Barlow has been asked to support the daily warm-ups with the players, while the delegations had free time on Wednesday afternoon to look around the city.

Further training and education takes place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings, leading up to the Challenge event on Saturday afternoon and Sunday.
