The Rajasthan government has set up no fewer than 152 Gillet sales points by cooperative societies in the rural areas of the state, which exceeds the initial goal of 34 by more than four times. The initiative is aimed at promoting Gierst as a nutritious and sustainable alternative in the daily consumption of ordinary people.
Main cooperative secretary Manju Rajpal said on Tuesday (September 16, 2025) in Jaipur that the villagers were given the Gierst products against these stores.
In addition to the Gierst articles produced by cooperative institutions, the products of self -help groups of women were also kept for sale at the stores, said Mrs. Rajpal.
The village cooperatives make persistent efforts to promote Gierst in food consumption, while consumers have shown interest in the inclusion of Gierst in their diet. The points of sale have been set up via the Rajasthan State Cooperative Consumer Federation, District Cooperative Consumer Society, Kraya Vikray Sahakari Samitis and the village cooperatives.
Mrs. Rajpal said that an announcement was made in the state budget of 2025-26 for opening the Gierst sales points to generate employment by selling the coarse grain products. Union Home and Cooperative Minister Amit Shah had inaugurated 64 Gierst stores on July 17 during his visit to attend the Sahakar Evum Rozgar Utsav in Dadiya in the Jaipur district on July 17.
Among the products available in Millet stores, are the popular mixed millet flour, roasted Jowar, roasted bajra, ragi cookies, oats cookies, ragi flakes and Sanwa roasted flakes. The coarse grains include Sanwa, Kutki, Kodo, Kangani and Small Kangani. Mrs. Rajpal said that the initiative had led to a significant increase in the income of cooperative societies.
