Raducanu makes progress in Korea open after skipping Billie Jean King Cup

Emma Raducanu conquered the frustration of long -term weather -related delays to beat Jaqueline Cristian in the opening round of the Korea Open.

The competition was planned for Tuesday, but was postponed due to rain, and more wet weather then caused another substantial delay on Wednesday. But Raducanu and Cristian were finally able to go to the field and it was the British no. 1 that came to the top 6-3, 6-4 after a struggle that lasted two hours and two minutes.

Raducanu chose to withdraw from Great -Britain team for the Billie Jean Jean Jing Cup final of this week to take a Wildcard in Seoul while she strives to stimulate her ranking during the last weeks of the season. The GB captain, Anne Kothavong, spoken in Shenzhen in Shenzhen, described the absence of Raducanu as disappointing, but the 22-year-old will have the feeling that her decision has paid off if she can have a strong week.

In her first game since a one-sided loss for Elena Rybakina in the third round of the US Open, Raducanu had to show her Vechtgeest to see Cristian, who was arranged eight places lower at the age of 41.

The first set score did not tell the full story, with the nine games that took 70 minutes and saved Raducanu 11 of 12 breaking points, fighting back from 3-1 with a point of five games in a row.

The Romanian struck considerably more winners, but Raducanu, who served six double mistakes, groove again during the second set. She fought twice from a break to finally win the victory and to set up a second round of collision with the 2024 Wimbledon champion, Barbora Krejcikova.

“Super happy to have won today,” Raducanu said in her interview on the entire country. “It has not been easy, I have the feeling that I have played this game in the last three days. To have been achieved after waiting, I am super satisfied with how I got through. Jaqueline is a really tough opponent and recently had great results. Tough circumstances, very slow, long rallies, long points, so happy to get through.”

It was a disappointing day for Cameron Norrie, who suffered a shock 6-7 (3), 6-4, 7-6 (2) loss at the Chengdu open against Zhou Yi, the 304th Chinese joker sign, with the 20-year-old a match point.
