There are not many car companies that currently want to change places with Lotus. The wrestling British-Chinese automaker is apparently set to cut 550 jobs at the head office in Norfolk, England. In any case, that is many employees, but when you consider that in total only 1,300 people work, the disturbing nature of the cutbacks becomes clearer.
Lotus had previously refused reports that it would close its factory in the area and set up a new factory in the US, said that although it was “active the options on the global market”, according to the UK, “according to the BBC. The automaker has since changed its tune after an assessment of his “business objectives in accordance with current market conditions”. In a statement to the BBCLotus tried to impress reporters that this was a matter of self -preservation in the UK:
“We believe that this is necessary to ensure a sustainable future for the company in today’s rapidly evolving automobile environment, which sees uncertainty with rapid changes in global policy, including rates.
[…]
“It actively investigates future growth opportunities to diversify the business model of Lotus Cars, including through production of third parties.”
A member of parliament who represents the area that the Job Cuts represents “terrible news” and a “punch in the stomach” for employees. “I have to agree with him.
Not very surprising
If you keep track of the recent events of the Lotus, this should not all be that surprising. At best, the company is in water for most of its life and things only seem to get worse. Damn, this is not even the first time that there have been fired this year in Hethel. In February the automaker had to cut to 270 jobs due to a weak question of the Emira sports car.
President Trump’s rates forced the automaker to temporarily pause the sale of Emira in the US, and only a few of the super expensive Chinese built electric Eleetre SUV were transmitted before its deliveries were also paused because rates would make them even more expensive. The EMeya -Sedan also has to go on sale.
I am not entirely sure where Lotus is going from here, but for a company that has spent his entire life to circle in the drain, it certainly feels that a second Flush is not that far away. I hope I am wrong, but usually not.
