Proton officially announced today that his first factory in Hicom Shah Alam was closed and that 1,400 employees of the factory were completely transferred to their main factory, Proton Tanjong Malim, located in the Automotive High-Tech Valley (AHTV), Perak.

With an area of 83.48 hectares and an investment of approximately RM370 million, the Facility also houses the R&D Research and Development Center (R&D) of Proton, the first automotive center in the country and complete with extensive test facilities and partial speed test lanes. During its activities, the factory produced more than 4 million vehicles, including iconic models such as Saga, Hero, Prime and Exora.
According to Proton in a published statement, the last unit produced by the factory is still a Saga of the latest version of MC2 on September 30, 2025. The production of the Saga will be continued in Tanjong Malim with other Proton models, including Persona, SUV-SUV-Serie X, Sedan and the new Sedan. Sedan.
Proton also held a special party ceremony in honor of all Shah Alam staff who started working in Tanjong Malim yesterday, led by Ainol AZMIL, deputy CEO of Proton, together with Proton’s top management.
“Today is a historic moment for Proton when 1,400 colleagues from Shah Alam start a new trip in Tanjong Malim. With their experience and dedication, Proton is now ready to enter the next phase, making the factory an important junction for the new generation of Proton vehicles,” said Ainol.
With this transfer, all installation, production and R&D activities of the company are now consolidated under one roof at Proton Tanjong Malim. For the production, the factory has five main sections, namely motorcycle and transmission, stamping, bodyworksblage, paint (paint) and final assembly installation.
Proton also said that the factory is equipped with the largest mechanical press in Malaysia, while the new engine installation line in the factory is the only factory where the Gey TGDI 1.5 TGDI motor outside China is installed.
“With a production capacity of 250,000 units per year, Proton continues to strengthen local supplier chains by aggressively expanding components. This approach places the Tanjong Malim factory as the steering wheel on the right for the GEYE GEYY group in the Southeast Asian region, as well as the location of the installation of an electric vehicles (EV) said today.
