‘Probably the worst feeling four I have’ – Adam Zampa after Australia’s resounding win over Oman | CricTracker

Australia Adam Zampa has issued a strong statement, making his feelings clear after his side’s group stage exit in the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup.

The leg-spinner had a match-winning performance in Australia’s final group stage match against Oman. He took four wickets in his 3.2 overs while giving away just 21 runs. He was also named Player of the Match. But despite the win, the performance had a sour feeling as Australia were eliminated from the tournament.

“It feels quite hollow, to be honest. You’d rather have the wickets than not, but it’s probably the worst four I’ve ever had. To sit here now, knowing I’m flying home tomorrow – I didn’t envisage this, that’s for sure. So it’s a flat feeling,” Zampa told ESPNcricinfo.

Despite winning the 2023 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup, he was disappointed with the Kangaroos’ performance in the ICC events in recent years.

“I think we are known as good tournament players[s and] teams, but I think since we won in 2021, we come through the World Cup quite disappointed. In 2022 and 2024, especially those two teams, I think we probably should have pushed it and come close to winning. You never know what happens at the end of these tournaments. I think the two teams we had in the last two World Cups in particular had really disappointing results,” he concludes.

The Mitchell Marsh-led side ended their season with just two wins in four matches, including a shock loss to Zimbabwe, eventually finishing third in Group B, while Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe qualified for the next stage.

This is one of the rare occasions when Australia have failed to progress beyond the group stages of a T20 World Cup, with their 2009 season under Ricky Ponting being the other early exit.
