Newly released video of the aftermath of a deadly event shooting at an ice rink in Rhode Island Last week saw a chaotic scene of bystanders and law enforcement rushing to help victims and initial confusion over who the shooter was.
“My father shot my brother,” a woman tells an officer outside the arena. The police camera images were obtained by The Boston Sphere on Friday shows.
The officer quickly runs into the arena, according to the more than 21-minute video released by Pawtucket police. The video is almost completely out of focus, except for the exterior of the building and the images of the stands.
Authorities say gunman Robert Dorgan, 56, attacked family members during a youth hockey game. Dorgan’s ex-wife Rhonda Dorgan, adult son Aidan Dorgan, and Rhonda Dorgan’s father, Gerald Dorganwere killed. Rhonda Dorgan’s mother Linda Dorgan and a family friend, Thomas Geruso, were injured.
Robert Dorgan, who also went by the names Roberta Esposito and Roberta Dorgano, died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said.
In the video, the police officer can be heard shouting, “Where is he? Where is he?” as he enters the arena and raises his gun.
The officer walks past abandoned coats and bags, runs to the people gathered in front of the stands and asks repeatedly, “Where’s the shooter?”
“The shooter is here,” a man tells him.
The video shows a quick scene over the next few minutes as the officer, bystanders who identify themselves as a firefighter and nurse, and others rush to work together to help the victims.
A man checks a victim’s pulse and describes it as ‘faint’. The officer orders someone to get more rags so they can apply pressure to a victim’s wounds. Another voice wails in the background.
Voices are heard describing a man with two gunshot wounds to the back and a woman shot in the back, side and hand.
“Aidan, hey, talk to me, Aidan. Aidan, how old are you? How old are you, buddy?” the officer asks before apparently discovering more gunshot wounds. “Oh, he has three. Oh, my God, he has more.”
Law enforcement officials credited several “Good Samaritans” who intervened and quickly stopped the attack. At least three bystanders were able to restrain the gunman in the middle of the stands as the crowd fled and ran around them.
