Plane lands on top of car on Florida Highway

Picture this: You’re driving down the highway, minding your own business, when suddenly a plane falls from the sky and lands on your car. That’s exactly what happened to a driver last night in Cocoa, Florida.

According to WESH 2a small multi-engine plane attempted an emergency landing on I-95 in Brevard County around 5:45 p.m. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the pilot reported engine problems shortly after takeoff during an instructional flight from Merritt Island.

The pilot attempted to bring the plane down safely on the highway, but was unable to avoid a Toyota Camry traveling southbound near mile marker 201. The plane landed on top of the car, causing a serious crash.

Fortunately, the 57-year-old Camry driver was taken to a local hospital with only minor injuries. The 27-year-old pilot and his 27-year-old passenger were uninjured. The entire incident was captured on dashcam by Jim Coffey.

Coffey told Spectrum News 13 that he and his son “saw this plane fall out of the sky” before it hit the Toyota. “I thought, ‘Hopefully it lands to the side,’” he said. “I thought maybe he would aim around without hitting the car, but bam, the steering wheel just hit the back of the car.”

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is conducting a full investigation.
