After the international break, a blockbuster home match in the Premier League against Everton follows.
The Red Devils welcome former manager David Moyes back to Old Trafford, with the Toffees three points behind Ruben Amorim’s side.
The Scottish manager, who has not even spent a full season at the helm of the 20-time English league champions, will be keen to send a message to his former employers with a big result.
Former United star Phil Jones, who had played under Moyes during that turbulent 2013/2014 season, said during the Inside Carrington podcast that he knew exactly how his former boss would handle the upcoming match.
Moyes’ game plan
“Yes, I think you know how a David Moyes team is going to set up Everton. It will be low block, disciplined, well structured out of possession and trying to hit United on those counters.”
The former England centre-back was confident Amorim would use the perfect game plan to destroy the Merseyside team.
“And I think it’s up to Man United, and I’m sure Ruben will work on that this week, that it’s up to Man United now to make sure the rest of the attack is right and hang in there in the attacks and try to break the low block and be creative in the final third.”
Regarding what the players will need to do against what may be a resolute Everton team, Phil Jones explained that the Red Devils will need runners if they are to break a low block.
Phil Jones demands runners destroy Everton
“You have to move the ball back and forth very quickly. And if it’s shaky and slow and labored, then you’re not going to move it.”
“And I also think it’s important to have people who want to run past the ball, even in a low block. People think that if you’re in a low block, it’s okay to try to take up little different positions on the field.”
“You still have to have people who want to go further than the ball. Because when a number 10 runs to the edge of the penalty area, the central defender has to go with him. So it creates space for other people.”
Hopefully United can continue their five-match unbeaten run on November 24. The match starts at 8 p.m.
