Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison has given his verdict on Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo after he was once again left out of the starting line-up by Ruben Amorim for Monday’s clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Mainoo’s misery
Mainoo is yet to start a Premier League game this season, with the player apparently not high on Amorim’s plans.
The Carrington Academy graduate asked to leave United on loan during the transfer window – a request that was turned down. Mainoo’s situation has not improved since then and rumors are circulating that a January departure is firmly on the cards. He is still linked to players such as Napoli, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Barcelona.
Unsurprisingly, Mainoo was left on the bench after Monday’s 4-1 win over Wolves. Before the match, Amorim made it clear that he would only start the 20-year-old if he truly believed he was the right man to win the match. These comments prompted a harsh response from club legend Paul Scholes.
When Mainoo was introduced at Molineux, he was greeted with a huge roar from the traveling United fans, who made their feelings known about his situation known.
He enjoyed a positive cameo, completing more passes (12/13) and winning more fouls (2) than any other midfielder during his short spell on the pitch.

Maddison supported Mainoo on Sky Sports to rediscover his form and get his career back on track.
Maddison delivers the Mainoo verdict
When asked if Mainoo still has a bright future, Maddison said [as quoted by the Manchester Evening News]”Yes, for sure. It wasn’t that long ago that he started for England at the European Championship.”
“I remember Kobbie’s first start for England was a match in which I played as a substitute and I was very impressed with how calm he was and the opportunity didn’t get to him at all.”
Maddison continued: “He is good on the ball and calm. A player with so much quality and assurance on the ball.”
“I don’t see how he can’t get back to a really high level.”
United currently sit sixth in the Premier League, level with Chelsea in fifth and just one point behind Crystal Palace in the last guaranteed Champions League spot.
