“Everyone in the Penguins organization is honored to welcome Marc-Andre back to the ice in Pittsburgh,” said President of Hockey Operations and GM Kyle Dubas. “Marc means so much for our team, our fans and the city of Pittsburgh because of the person he is and the example he has set. We are very happy to celebrate this full circle moment.”
This return home is not meant to indicate a return to the NHL of Fleury that comes from retirement, although speculation inevitably pops up that he might have the desire to try again. With this PTO, fans can celebrate one of the most iconic goalkeepers in Pittsburgh while he briefly returns to the city where he spent the prime of his career. This is little more than compiled a memorable event, so that both parties can say goodbye.
Fleury, a Stanley Cup champion at Pittsburgh (2009, 2016, 2017), enjoyed a 22-year-old NHL career in four clubs: Pittsburgh, Vegas, Chicago and Minnesota. His most memorable run was with the penguins before the team left him unprotected in the expansion point that the Golden Knights saw him select as the new face of their franchise.
More than 1,051 games in the regular season, he put a record of 575-339-97 together with 76 Shutouts, including 15 20-Win seasons and nine 30-win seasons. Only Martin Brodeur surpasses him and wins in the regular season.
Vleury first generally prepared by the Penguins in 2003 and has almost every important goal convening record in the team history of the Penguins, including games played (691), wins (375) and Shutouts (44). He also belongs to the franchise leaders in Playoff performance, with 115 games played, 62 victories and 10 shutouts.
A four-fold NHL All-Star, Vezina Trophy winner (2021) and William M. Jennings Trophy-receiver (2021), Fleury earned countless individual and team receptions during his career, including several team MVP and Players’ Player Awards.
