The series is expected to provide crucial match practice for both sides as they continue their preparations for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will begin in India and Sri Lanka, days after the end of the T20I series.
Pakistan and Australia have been placed in different groups for the global tournament, with the Men in Green featuring in Group A. The 2021 champions, on the other hand, have been placed in Group B of the 20-team tournament. The upcoming series is therefore an important opportunity for both teams to refine combinations and assess players ahead of the big event.
This tour marks Australia’s third visit to Pakistan since March 2022. During that tour, the visitors played a three-match Test series and an ODI series, followed by a solitary T20I. The visitors also featured in Pakistan during the 2025 Champions Trophy, playing three matches in the country. Australia last played a T20I at the Gaddafi Stadium on April 5, 2022, when they recorded a narrow three-wicket win.
PCB Chief Operating Officer Sumair Ahmed Syed welcomed Australia’s return and expressed optimism over fan turnout for the series. He also noted that Gaddafi Stadium has become a well-known venue for the Australian side, having hosted a Test, five ODIs and a T20I since March 2022.
“We are excited and looking forward to hosting Australia for the three-match T20I series here in Lahore. The tour marks a blockbuster start to the year for Pakistani cricket fans, and I urge them to turn out in large numbers during the series to support both teams as they finalize their preparations for the T20 World Cup,” Sumair said in a press release.
