It was the Mammoth’s first look at the reigning Stanley Cup champions, who entered the game losing two in a row while the Panthers might heat up and win two in a row to cap off a six-game homestand.

Summary of the game

The night started with John Marino recovering a puck on defense and advancing it to Dylan Guenther, who picked up the puck in the neutral zone and beat Sergei Bobrovsky on a breakaway 11 minutes into the game.

Carter Verhaeghe responded for the Panthers with less than a minute to play in the first frame on an excellent seam pass from Aaron Ekblad, which came from the hash marks near the right boards and went untouched through the slot all the way to the back post for a small chip over Vejmelka’s pad.

This goal turned the momentum, and to open the second period, Sam Bennett scored less than two minutes into the striker when he beat Vejmelka over the shoulder with a wrist shot from the left circle.

A third unanswered goal came for the Panthers when Bennett scored his second goal in less than two minutes, assisted by Verhaeghe, who grabbed his second point of the match.

The Mammoth finally responded as Guenther scored his second goal of the match 13 seconds after the Panthers’ goal, giving them a 3–1 lead, beating Bobrovsky by five after again getting lost behind the Panthers’ defense for another breakaway.

With another Mammoth goal with six minutes left in the second, it came when Jack McBain pulled in a rebound on a Sean Durzi point shot. This goal tied the game at 3-3, and the second period ended the same way it started.

To keep the match level, Vejmelka made several excellent saves in a row in the opening minutes of the third while lying on his back – a highlight of this match that should definitely not be missed.

The tie was eventually broken by Anton Lundell, who fired home a rebound with 52 seconds left to seal the 4-3 victory.

After their third straight win, the Panthers return to action tomorrow night for the second half of a back-to-back against the Colorado Avalanche, while the Mammoth get the day off before playing the Seattle Kraken on Friday.
