Lahore: The Pakistan National Hockey Team players expressed their frustration on Tuesday about receiving only domestic daily reimbursements, and said that they are still waiting for international reimbursements that are essential for the management of domestic costs.
According to sources, the players have not yet received their international daily reimbursements, nor have they received a clear timeline timeline.
This delay has grown dissatisfaction within the team, since more than six weeks have passed since the conclusion of the FIH Nations Cup without any payment of rights.
“It is difficult to run a household about only household reimbursements. Participating in events is important and we are fully dedicated, but we also have families to take care of,” players said.
Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) President Tariq Bugti has tackled the issue, which confirms that domestic reimbursements have been cleaned up.
However, he admitted that the federation is confronted with serious financial limitations.
“We have informed the players for the Nations Cup that we spend our savings to send the team. It is a difficult time; we currently have no money,” Bugti said.
He clarified that players received their domestic daily allowance from PKR 3000 a day, while the international daily fee, set at PKR 30,000 a day, will be paid as soon as there are sufficient funds available.
For the unexpected, PHF president Tariq Bugti, on Monday revealed that the federation has requested an extension in the deadline set by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) to confirm the participation of its national team to the Pro League.
The Apex Hockey Federation, last month, formally invited the Pakistan men’s team to participate in the Pro League after the withdrawal of New Zealand from the tournament despite winning the Nations Cup.
In the meantime, the PHF received a deadline of 12 August to inform the Apex Federation about their decision to accept or refuse the invitation.
