If you didn’t happen to watch UFC 324 on Saturday, Pimblett suffered his first loss under the UFC banner by unanimous decision at the hands of ‘The Highlight’, Justin Gaethje (27-5 MMA, 10-5 UFC) after 25 minutes of action at the T-Mobile Arena in Enterprise, NV. During the fight, Paddy Pimblett suffered a few knockdowns.
It’s been less than two weeks since Pimblett fought Gaethje. He’s already looking ahead to the future, including another shot at his final opponent.
Paddy Pimblett takes to YouTube for a positive update
During his fight against Justin Gaethje on January 24, Paddy Pimblett suffered some cuts and bleeding from his opponent’s attacks. If “The Baddy”’s recent comments are any indication, his recovery time was short.
He took his YouTube channel last weekend to update his fanbase on the aftermath of his latest trip to the cage, saying he was already in the gym just days after the fight.
“Everyone thought my face was a mess,” Paddy Pimblett began. “I’m only a week away from the fight. My face is healthy, I have a little bruise. The only thing [that’s] There’s something wrong with me: my eyeballs. My fingernails are scratching my eyeballs, but you know what, we keep going. I’ve had a nice week of chilling. I was back inside [strength and conditioning]lift some weights.”
Pimblett said he used the week after UFC 324 to escape the rigors of the fight game. He also took up 90 minutes (plus injury time) of the beautiful football game last weekend.
“I had a nice week with my family,” he said. “[I’ve] I was just chilling with my kids and my wife, had a nice meal, enjoyed my food, and of course I went to the match to see Liverpool beat Newcastle 4-1 and had a lovely meal during the match.
Paddy Pimblett upbeat after first UFC loss
In martial arts there is an old saying about fighters that goes like this: “You are only as good as your last fight.” Paddy Pimblett is rolling in the aftermath of his first defeat in the world’s top MMA promotion.
“People feel sorry for me and this and that,” he said. “I’m great. In our sport you can’t win every fight, you know what I mean? It’s one where you don’t lose, you learn. I already learned a lot from that fight. I haven’t watched it back yet, still quite irritated with myself and a lot of things surrounding the fight, but we’re watching it back on the channel. I’m watching it back with everyone.”
Paddy Pimblett hungry for revenge on Gaethje
After his first UFC defeat, Pimblett is thinking about revenge. Although he believes Justin Gaethje’s time in the Octagon is short, Paddy Pimblett is hoping a rematch can happen.
“There are a few things in that fight [which] “I got angry, but we’ll move on,” he said. ‘We can’t do anything about it. There is nothing we can take back and change. I just hope that in the future he can step up and have a rematch with me, but it’s one of them.”
However, Pimblett acknowledges that a rematch with Justin Gaethje may not happen.
‘If he ends up fighting Ilia [Topuria] or fighting Max [Holloway] or something like that and retiring, it’s one of them,” he said. “I will have learned a lot from losing that fight, so we’ll keep going.”
As for a targeted return date for Paddy Pimblett?
“People think I should take the rest of the year off,” he told his audience. “I won’t. I’ll fight in the summer.”
Final thoughts
There is a proverb that best fits Pimblett’s recent comments: “Revenge is a dish best served cold.” There’s no doubt that he wants revenge on the man who handed him his first defeat in the UFC.
At the same time, however, Gaethje is 37 years old, six years Paddy Pimblett’s eldest. In this case, a resit may not be an option. If a Gaethje rematch doesn’t happen, it won’t be much of a problem, but Pimblett’s next opponent could be in for a rude awakening.
