Klaravich Stables’ Oversubscribedmaking her first start in more than a year, showed the winning form she showed as a sophomore as she chased stablemate Malleymoo down the stretch to record a half-length win in the $150,000 Forever Together on Sunday at Aqueduct Racetrack.
The ninth edition of the Forever Together, originally scheduled for the previous Sunday before high winds canceled the card, saw five-time Eclipse Award-winning trainer Chad Brown saddle the exacta, with Malleymoo finish 3 1/4 lengths free from Delicious as cake for second place in the penultimate grass race at the Big A this year.
Flowers for me finished fourth, with Rotating colors, Racing colors And Mrs. Bonnie T completing the order of finish in the 1 1/16 mile outdoor turf race for fillies and mares 3 years and older. St. Benedicts Prep, Bernietakescharge and Tipple, all entered only for the main event, were dropped.
Oversubscribed, who was reportedly sidelined with lung problems after finishing second in the November Grade 3 Pebbles here last November, stayed off the early pace of the New York-bred Spinning Colors as she led the seven-horse field by fractions of 23.95 seconds for the quarter mile, half in 48.93 and three-quarters in 1:13.04 at brisk speed.
Jockey Flavien Prat remained patient on Oversubscribed and gave her a little tap as she straightened up for home. Oversubscribed, Spinning Colors caught up from outside and set their sights on Mallymoo in the final furlong, taking command as she received right-handed encouragement and hitting the wire in a final time of 1:43.58.
Oversubscribed, the 1-2 favorite, returned $3.06 on a $2 win bet. The four-year-old Too Darn Hot filly, who posted two wins and three second-place finishes in six starts as a sophomore in 2024, recorded her second career stakes victory and first since the Listed Wild Applause last June at Aqueduct. She increased her career earnings to $275,765 and was bred in Britain by Rabbah Bloodstock.
“She felt good,” Prat said. “She broke way to the front and they started running going into the first corner, but then they slowed down quite a bit. I was happy to be in the first group. When I tipped her off, she gave me a good run and got tired in the last eighth of a mile, but she managed to get the job done.
“I thought when I went home that I had a lot of horses, but the track is a bit sticky and she hasn’t run for so long, so of course she got a bit tired,” Prat added.
LSU Stables’ Malleymoo has finished on the board in each of her last six matches. The 5-year-old English Channel mare earned her first stakes in black type since winning the 2023 Listed Penn Oaks.
“The plan was to move on, and that’s what I did in the beginning,” said Malleymoo jockey Manny Franco. “I tried to pick up the pace a little bit and run my race from there. She was just second best today. She did her best right through the wire.”
