Go to the Bid Racing Stable’s Fast market ended the turf racing year at Aqueduct Racetrack with aplomb, beating runner-up Love You Anyway by 1 1/2 lengths to earn her first stakes score in Sunday’s Grade 3, $175,000 Pebbles for 3-year-old fillies competing at 1 1/16 miles on the outer turf at the Big A.
Fast Market has ridden routes and sprints on both the main track and grass for trainer John Terranova in her young career, but has reached a comfort level on grass while stretching. She built on a strong second-place finish by a neck from Ready for Candy in the 1 1/8-mile Grade 2 Sands Point on the Aqueduct grass last time on October 18 and earned her second win in her last three starts after a first-breaking one-mile mark on the Aqueduct grass in September.
Fast Market has been successful in applying a closing style and followed a similar trip in the 32nd edition of the Pebbles led by jockey Flavien Prat as I love you anyway led the seven-horse field through a first quarter-mile in 24.28 seconds, the half in 49.12 and three-quarters in 1:13.11 over brisk riding.
Love You Anyway, ridden by Jose Lezcano, maintained the lead down the stretch and moved into the middle Sweet darling made a strong bid near the rail. But Fast Market drew from a deep reservoir and was able to make a full run from the outside, bringing home a final time of 1:43.22.
Love You Anyway earned a black type for trainer Rusty Arnold for the first time, beating Sweet Treasure by half a length for second place. Peak hype finished fourth with Correct, Starship Pegasus And Paradise city completing the order of finishing. It Ain’t Two and With the Angels, which only appeared on the main track, were scratched.
Fast Market, bred in Kentucky by Breed First, returned $5.08 on a $2 win bet as the 3-2 favorite, improving her career earnings to $132,634 via an 11-2-3-1 record.
“She’s just a really nice filly. She’s finally put it all together in her last few starts and it’s more of the same,” Terranova. “She’s just getting better and better. She’s a later foal so it took us a while to figure it out, but in the end it worked out and she’s been very consistent and we can’t wait for next season.
“I knew when she walked onto the track she was ready,” Terranova added. “She’s so down and friendly and classy. She’s so fun to be around. She’s given us quite a run for her – we’ve done sprints, dirt and grass with her. She’s had a few decent races on the dirt and she’s a big, strong filly, but it took us a while to figure it out.”
Prat took a double personal stake as he also guided Oversubscribed to victory in the $150,000 Forever Together on the grass in Race 4. His win aboard the favored Apalta in the ninth race final gave him a total of five wins on the card.
“I was traveling well and she gave me a good spin,” Prat said. “When it became clear, I thought she was going to get there, and then the horse was in front [Love You Anyway] shifted a bit and she looked at her a bit, but then she regrouped and continued. She is very handy and does everything well.”
Love You Anyway, returning to stakes after finishing second and third in back-to-back allowance races at Kentucky, moved to 1-2-2 in seven career starts.
“My filly broke really well and did everything right,” Lezcano said. “I think the ground was a little soft for her today. During the stretch she was kind of slogging back and forth and getting tired. She gave me a good race. She felt good the whole way.”
