2nd T20I between India and Australia at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) was eagerly awaited after a nil result in the opening match. With Australia winning the toss and electing to play first, the pressure was on the Indian batting line-up to post a competitive total. Although the day was notable for some great individual performances, it was still young Harshit Rana who thrilled the crowd with a stunning 104m, seasoned Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinisdemonstrating his raw hitting power.
Harshit Rana beats Marcus Stoinis for a massive 104 meter six
Sent to bat for the senior all-rounder Shivam Dubey after a collapse of the highest order, Harshit Rana justified his promotion with a fighting knock of 35 runs off 33 balls, including three boundaries and one towering six. The highlight was undeniably the huge 104-yard six that was fired Marcus Stoinis over in the 14.5th.
Faced with a short delivery from outside, Rana made space and unfurled a clean, powerful swing that sent the ball soaring long over and deep into the crowd. These six not only produced a vital 50-run partnership Abhishek Sharma but also injected the much-needed momentum into India’s innings. India’s Batting flop show against Australia’s precision
Despite Rana’s efforts, India’s batting performance was a story of collapse and missed opportunities. The Indian top order collapsed under the relentless pressure of the Australian pace attack, led by Josh Hazlewood‘s masterful spell that claims three crucial wickets, including vital batters Shubman Gill, Suryakumar YadavAnd Tilak Varma within the power game. India lost four wickets for just 32 runs in the first five overs, highlighting their vulnerability on the challenging MCG surface.
Abhishek was the lone warrior with a blistering innings of 68 off 37 balls, with eight fours and two sixes, providing some resistance when India were down and out. However, the middle and lower orders failed to capitalize on partnerships, with wickets plummeting regularly, including runouts and dismissals by other Australian bowlers such as Xavier Bartlett And Nathan Ellis. The collective batting effort yielded just 125 runs in 18.4 overs, leaving India with an under-par target on the board.
Australia completed the chase in 13.2 overs and won the match by 4 wickets. Captain Mitchell Marsh top scorer for the Aussies with 46 off 26 balls. Meanwhile, Hazlewood, who bowled exceptionally well, deservedly earned Player of the Match honors.
