Sharing our plan for the 4th grade home school -curriculum! Keep in mind that I am not a professional in this. We come out when we go and it is our first full year of home school after completing the majority of last year home schooling. More about why we decided to have a home school in this message. If you need expert advice, view my friend Brittany’s blog!
Hello friends! How are you? I hope you have a great day so far. We are officially here in back-to-school mode here. Liv started last week (8th grade! I can’t even believe it) and we are resuming the home school today.
For today’s post I wanted to share a little more about our plan for this year and the curriculum that we do if you are curious about home schooling.
I think it’s worth mentioning here Home school is not as discouraging as I thought it would be, Especially when we are considering it for the first time. We all want the best for our children, and I was really worried about the failure of her. Now that we are in the home school world, I can tell you that she is flowering. She learns so much and we can adjust her plan based on her interest and levels. We are also able to move forward faster, which keeps her interested.
Our 4th grade Homeschool -Curriculum
This is what we intend to do this year, but it can always be changed or adjusted if necessary.
Math (30 minutes)
We’ll continue with Saxon Math and Nicole the Math Lady Because P loves her and she does incredible work, teaching the Saxon lessons. Her software also provides assessment, so p simply enters its answers in the platform and receives a grade for each assignment. It is fascinating and concise – we love it.
Read (30 minutes)
I want to keep reading, so she chose a book that we will read and discuss together while we continue. We start with The lion, the witch and the wardrobe.
Writing + Grammar (30 minutes)
We still use for grammar MasterbooksWhat a faith -based curriculum is. It includes image study, memorization, punctuation, spelling, vocabulary, observation, poems, psalms, letters and practical application by creative writing.
To write we do the Fables, Myths and Fairy Tales Writing Lessons From IEW. It focuses on their structure and style method. At the moment she is working on reading fables, making important contours and story (being able to tell the story again with her notes).

I ordered the books of the 4th grade last semester and when she finishes it, we will enter the books of the 5th grade.
We also work every quarter on one research paper, based on an interest. Her first is about bullfighting after our journey to the Bullenvechtmuseum in Seville.
Social studies (30 minutes)
I have ordered a few history books to continue working, and also A round book about drawing the United States. She is enthusiastic to start with that and every state, capital, the rivers, etc. Label

Science (Friday only)
I still work on science plans. Last year the home school -thing happened quite abruptly, so we did one science project every week on Friday. I will probably stay as a Science Day on Friday, but I thought about ordering a few monthly kits. If you have a science kit subscription reviews, send them my way!
Last year we did things such as the dissecting of owls, making an egg drop and building a roller coaster.
Art/Fun/PE/Extra (a few times during the week))
This year we have a few extra fun things, including Farm School, which is one day every week. It is only two hours and she can drive horses, help with the animals and make art on the farm. She also has one of the day of Homschool Parkour lessons. Between those two things and her club basketball practices, she still gets the chance to be with other children and play weekly, and I am grateful for that.
Homework:
We started to use the Khan Academy after a few good friends are recommended and are quite impressed so far. If you are a home school, there is really no need for homework, but I wanted P to stay in the Groove to have a * small * homework because the plan is that she will eventually return to personal school. (I also feel that it makes sense, because Liv has homework every day.)
For homework she does 20 minutes Khan Academy Math and then read for 15-20 minutes, grammar or coding.
Some home school -Frequently asked questions
How did you find a home school -curriculum?
Brittany Was so kind to spend with me on the phone for a long time. She asked about the interests of P and shared ideas. She made home schooling much less intimidating and I am so grateful for her advice. She also has their children home schooled all their lives, which means that I am hopeful in case P does not return to personal school next week.
How long does it take for Homeschool?
The best thing about Homeschool is that it is 1: 1 focused attention, so you don’t need that much time. So much personal school is spent on exchanging children and trying to let them listen and pay attention.
We are able to finish everything we have to do for the day in about two hours, so that the rest of the day stays open. She can use this time to convince things in which she is interesting (such as art, crocheting or practicing the piano), or we can enjoy a small excursion or outing.
How can you work from home and home school?
This is the part that I still try to navigate. I batch most of my content during the weekend, so that I can concentrate on the children and house items as much as possible during the week. I also started planning customer conversations and podcast interviews when the pilot is at home, because when he is not traveling, he is a teacher father and can take over the home school tasks.
I just feel that I am going to 1000 km/h, because solo parenting costs full focus/attention/energy/effort, and when he is home, I crush myself to make everything. Just have to master this schedule and find my groove.
Okay friends: what are your children planning this year? Homeschool Mama’s: Some advice if we entered our first full year?
I hope you have a great day and I see you soon!
XO
Gina
