Ryan Garcia And Oscar de la Hoya are again at odds. The boxing duo has been working together for many years, although there have been raw waters along the way, with Garcia who shoots his promoter and vice versa.
Those hard feelings recently emerged again, after De La Hoya had revealed that he was not interested in booking a rematch between Garcia and Rolly RomeroWho beat ‘King Ryan’ earlier this year. According to ‘The Golden Boy’, he is not interested in booking the Rematch again, with a faint performance from both men.
“No, I don’t really do that (like the idea),” said De la Hoya During a recent boxing event ((Via Bad Left Hook). “Because the first fight was a boring fight, and if you are a promoter and you try to rematches, it is because people want to see it. The first fight was not so entertaining, the first fight was no problem.”
De la Hoya believes that there are larger fights to make, and he can be right, including one against Teofimo Lopez.
“I believe there are other opponents for Ryan.
Garcia gave an interview around the same time Ring magazine Confirmation that a rematch against Romero would probably not happen, who was not so good with him. According to the young Pugilist, he regards that as a lack of respect from his promoter.
“I have always tried to restore the relationship and be the bigger person. I have said in the past that families are fighting and always put it aside. But it is really difficult to tackle a promoter who is really involved in himself. He likes the attention, still, even at his age. It just never works with his fighters, especially those the stars. Canelo Alvarez.
“He causes a division in people, and he does not know how to maintain a good relationship. He likes to broadcast people’s things and do things that a promoter should not do. He has always come to me.
“After the Romero fight they gave me the worst offer you can ever imagine. It was a nonsense offer. And then Oscar tried to take my rematch with Rolly and give it to Raul Curiel. I tried to get the Rolly Rematch, and now do you want to give it to another hunter?
“It is a slap in the face and it keeps happening time and time again. It is disrespectful. There is no loyalty. It is offensive and they show me their true colors every time. I don’t want to be part of a team like that, and that’s just the truth,” he added.
“Oscar doesn’t respect me. I don’t think he ever thought I was a good hunter, but to be honest I don’t care. I still have a fight with him, and that’s it. If they can build another star, great. I want to continue.”
There will be no shortage of promoters who would be willing to pick up Garcia, including Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren, among other things. For now, Garcia is looking for his next challenge, which could be the last one under the Golden Boy Banner.
