New York City -Het theater in Madison Square Garden was getuige van een nieuw tijdperk toen Xander Zayas van Puerto Rico (22-0, 13 KO’s) een meesterlijke uitvoering leverde om de Jorge Garcia van Mexico (33-5, 26 KOS) te verslaan door een unanieme beslissing (116-112, 118-110, 119-109), waarbij de WBO Junior-middelste wereldtitel op slechts 22 years old.

Garcia succeeded in dragging Zayas in a fight in the sixth, but in the later rounds the opposing party of Zayas took over. He outboxed garcia through the play and earned a broad decision.

“Boxing 101. I had to make my way to the victory. I knew that if I stood before him I would fight against his fight. So I did everything behind the Jab. The shot was the key to the victory, and that showed that today,” said Zayas.

“This is a dream come true. This is wonderful. To see my Puerto Rican fans here, this is great. I could never dream of anything better than this.”
