But they got nothing more, as a teoscar groundout, a deliberate walk to Freddie (and stolen base), and a line -out of the call ended the threat.

The attack no longer received insurance in the 8th and 9th, which they could have used afterwards.

On the hill was Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who was usually dominant during the game. In the first two frames it was six up and six for him with a few strikeouts. But the 3rd looked like potential disasters, while he was the lead-off man 0-2 before he carried out a walk, followed by a wild pitch and another walk to set up a few. However, Yamamoto received a strikeout and a double play to end that threat with minimal problems.

He resumed the dominance in the 4th, got a clean frame with a strikeout and then hit a few in a 1-2-3 inning in the 5th. He followed by getting a strikeout in the 6th and 7th without giving up a runner, and did the same in the 8th to leave it 17 in a row retiring.
