The initiative, launched on January 1, will continue until January 30. Speaking to officials, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Women and Children Safety Wing, Srujana Karnam said the operation is aimed at identifying missing children and rescuing minors involved in begging, rag picking, child labor and human trafficking and ensuring rehabilitation and reintegration of children through coordinated efforts with various government departments and voluntary organizations.
As part of Operation Smile-XII, twelve special teams have been constituted, each led by a sub-inspector and supported by four police officers, including one woman constable. These teams will conduct systematic field operations at identified vulnerable locations in the Cyberabad Commissionerate.
Police will also use facial recognition technology through the Darpan mobile application to trace missing children and reunite them with their families, the DCP said.
Among those present were W&CSW ACP S. Krishna Prasad, members of Child Welfare Committees from Ranga Reddy, Medchal and Sangareddy districts; representatives of Bala Raksha Bhavan and the Association for Voluntary Action, officials of the labor and health departments, district child protection officers and members of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, along with other officials.
