OpenAI launched his GPT-5 artificial intelligence model, the long-awaited newest episode of a technology that contributed to the transformation of global business and culture.
The GPT models from OpenAI are the AI technology that drives the popular Chatgpt-Chatbot, and GPT-5 will be available for all 700 million chatgpt users, Openai said.
Coinciding with the announcement of OpenAi, Microsoft revealed that the GPT-5 will bring to its services, Including Copilot, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Azure Ai Foundry and Github Copilot.
The big question now is whether OpenAi, which kicks off the generative AI-Rzernia in 2022, will be able to continue to stimulate important technological progress that attract users at company level to justify the enormous amounts it invests to feed these developments.
The release comes as the world’s largest AI developers, Alphabet, Meta, Amazon and Microsoft, who open financially, drastically increase capital expenses to pay for AI data citers.
These four companies expect to spend almost US $ 400 billion (a $ 613 billion) this financial year.
OpenAi is now in early discussions to enable employees to cash in a value of US $ 500 billion, one step higher than the current valuation of US $ 300 billion. Top AI researchers now recommend US $ 100 million signing bonuses.
“Until now, the company spending on AI has been pretty weak, while consumer spending on AI is fairly robust because people like to chat with chatgpt,” said economic writer Noah Smith. “But consumer spending on AI will simply not be enough to justify all the money spent on AI data centers.”
OpenAi emphasizes the Enterprise Prowess of GPT-5. In addition to software development, the company said that GPT-5 excels in writing, health-related questions and finances.
“GPT-5 is really the first time that I think one of our Mainline models has the feeling that you can ask a legitimate expert, an expert on PhD student, everything,” said Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAi during a press conference.
“One of the coolest things it can do is write good, immediate software. This idea of software on request will be one of the determining functions of the GPT-5-EA.”
In Demos, OpenAI showed how GPT-5 could be used to make full workpieces software based on written text prompts, better known as “vibe coding”.
An important measure of success is whether the step from GPT-4 to GPT-5 is comparable to the earlier improvements of the research laboratory.
Two early reviewers told Reuters That although the new model impressed them with his ability to solve science and mathematics problems, they believe that the jump-4 jump-4 to GPT-5 was not as great as the earlier improvements of OpenAI.
Even if the improvements are great, GPT-5 is not sufficiently advanced to replace people. Altman said that GPT-5 cannot learn alone, an important part to enable AI to match human skills.
Think more
Almost three years ago, Chatgpt introduced the world to generative AI, dazzling users with his ability to write human -like prose and poetry, and soon became one of the fastest -growing apps ever.
In March 2023, OpenAI Chatgpt succeeded with the release of GPT-4, a large language model that made huge jumps ahead in intelligence. While GPT-3.5, an earlier version, received a bar exam score in the lower 10 percent, GPT-4 has passed the simulated bar exam in the top 10 percent.
The jump of GPT-4 was based on more computing power and data, and the company hoped that “scaling up” would consistently lead to improved AI models.
But OpenAi came in issues to scale up. A problem was the data wall that the company encountered, and OpenAi’s former chief scientist Ilya Sutkever said last year that while the processing force grew, the amount of data was not.
He referred to the fact that large language models have been trained on massive data sets that scrape the entire internet, and AI laboratories have no other options for large strives of textual data generated by people.
Apart from the lack of data, there was another problem that ‘training runs’ probably have more out of hardware for large models, considering how complicated the system is, and researchers may not know the final performance of the models until the end of the run, which can last for months.
At the same time, OpenAi discovered a different route to Smarter AI, called “Test-Time Compute”, a way to let the AI model spend more time on calculating power “on each question, so that it can solve challenging tasks such as maths or complex operations that require advanced reasoning and decision-making.
GPT-5 acts as a router, which means that if a user asks GPT-5 a particularly difficult problem, this test time calculation will use to answer the question.
This is the first time that the general public has access to the test-time calculation technology of OpenAi, something that Altman said is important for the mission of the company to build AI that benefits all humanity.
Altman believes that the current investment in AI is still insufficient.
“We have to build much more infrastructure worldwide to have AI locally available in all these markets,” said Altman.
