Oilers activate Key D-Man Off Injury Reserve, Walman back this week

The Edmonton Oilers announced on Monday that defenseman Jake Walman has been activated from injured reserve. Walman is expected to work with Darnell Nurse on the blue line and could be in the lineup as early as Tuesday against the Ottawa Senators.

Walman’s return will likely lead to some lineup changes, with Troy Stecher or Ty Emberson possibly making way. There is talk that one of these two players could be placed on waivers or traded as the Oilers are tight against the cap and their roster cap. With Alec Regula on injured reserve, Edmonton has some time to sort things out, but Regula is set to return, which means some tough decisions are coming.

Jake Walman Oilers returns

The Oilers have missed Walman’s presence since the preseason as his recovery timeline was repeatedly pushed back. Head coach Kris Knoblauch initially hoped Walman would make his debut in the season opener. His repeated delays raised some concerns about the severity of his injury.

The current Oilers road trip has been a challenge, with the Oilers sitting at 2-3-1 and struggling with execution and team cohesion. Walman’s return should strengthen their transition game and defensive stability.

Walman recently signed a seven-year extension worth $7 million per season, making his health and availability a key factor in the team’s long-term plans.
