Employees who entered their office buildings in Manhattan on Tuesday saw more suitable employees in the lobbies and police officers stationed at inputs.
The increased security came one day after a shooter killed four people on the 345 Park Avenue of Rudin Management.
On Tuesday morning, several suitable employees in Two Manhattan West were shown along the corridor between the lobby of the building and the security gates, although their number had been thinned by noon.
The lobbies of office buildings in the Hudson Yards area showed no clear signs of upset security on Tuesday afternoon, apart from potentially more employees at hand. Representatives of two prominent office bosses in the area, related companies and Tishman Speyer, refused to discuss additional security measures taken after the fatal shootings.
In the afternoon two police officers in New York City were outside 50 Hudson Yards, near the entrance to BlackRock headquarters, and three more officers were also seen along 10th Avenue, near the entrances of the Hudson Yards stores.
One officer stood outside the entrance to the spiral of Tishman Speyer and spoke with a construction employee.
RXR, one of the greatest owners in the city, increased security patrols and visits to the security counselor to his buildings from an abundance of caution, said a company spokesperson.
The company noted that it is regularly active shooter training (the next is planned for August) and RXR’s Head of Security is a former senior NYPD leader, who creates an open line with law enforcement.
One person who works at 60 Columbus Circle saw a few extra security staff in their building, standing arm of the entrance instead of sitting behind the desk of the lobby.
Rudin’s 345 Park Avenue was closed on Tuesday while officials are investigating the shooting. Security patrols increased in buildings near the site of the shooting, and some companies allowed employees to work from home, Bloomberg reported.
On Monday evening, a shooter identified as the 27-year-old Shane Tamura van Las Vegas entered the Park Avenue tower and started to open fire with an AR-15-style rifle, killing four.
The police said that Tamura, who rode cross-country in his BMW, focused on the National Football Association, which has its headquarters in the building. According to his suicide note, Tamura, a former high school football player, believed that he suffered from CTE, or chronic traumatic encephalopathy, an injury that is common in football. CTE can only be finally diagnosed by an autopsy of the brain after death.
Tamura wrongly took the elevator to the 33rd floor, where Rudin has his offices. There he shot and killed an employee at the company, Julia Hyman. Allegedly, he reportedly turned his weapon in himself and committed suicide.
“The Rudin family and everyone in our company have been destroyed by the meaningless tragedy of yesterday. Our thoughts and prayers are lost at the injured and lost last night, including our beloved Rudin colleague, a brave police officer in New York City, a beloved lobby guard and an employee at a tenant company,” said the Rudin -family. “We are grateful to the NYPD, FBI, EMS and several other emergency services for their fast and courageous action. We also thank the mayor and police commissioner for their leadership.”
Among the other victims was Wesley Lepatner, the 43-year-old CEO of Blackstone’s Breit.
“Words cannot express the destruction we feel,” Blackstone said in a statement, the Associated Press reported. “Wesley was a beloved member of the Blackstone family and will be missed very much. She was brilliant, passionate, warm, generous and deeply respected within our company and then.”
