A female teacher in the Puri district in Odisha was attacked, serrated and paraded on the street by her husband and a group of men on Tuesday evening about accusations of an extra -marital affair. Her male friend, identified as a student leader, was also subject to public humiliation.
The case came to light after a video of the incident went viral on social media. The images shows that the woman is being hit and abused by her husband while a large crowd was hunted, filmed and the test viewed. The woman’s friend is pronounced his undergarments.
Both the woman and her companion were forced to walk to the police station while the crowd was watching.
The woman lived separately from her husband, a teacher from a university, because of a marriage dispute. She stayed in a rented house in Nimapara. The husband suspected her of unfaithfulness and reportedly decided to confront her.
On Tuesday evening, around 8 p.m., he and a few employees came to her home and claimed to have found her with the student leader in a compromising position.
In a flurry of anger, the teacher dragged the woman and her companion out of the house, subject them to abuse and paraded them through the streets. The woman was even clamped as part of the humiliation, while spectators registered the incident.
The police have confirmed that a case has been registered in connection with the incident. “We have held two people, including the woman’s husband, for interrogation,” said an officer, adding that further investigation is underway.
