As you may have suspected by yesterday’s copy at our top 10, this could be one of the most consistent week of field hockey games in the regular season in the last three decades.
Huh? Did we not only have the Sixth National High School Invitational, which brought 64 of the best scholastic field hockey teams together in the nation with an All-Star cast of players who could one day be in your American senior national team?
Well, yes.
But a number of teams have also planned games outside the NHSI, and many of these games will take place in the coming days. We call it “fasting your safety belts”, and it is not only a good policy to ride on a motor vehicle, but there are some games that deserve your attention this week.
Take yesterday. Smyrna (DEL.) Organized Newtown Square Episcopal Academy (PA.), Our number 8 team in the Topofthecircle.com Top 10. The church women went to a dream start and got a Grace van der Wagg goal in the first 75 seconds of playing on the way to a 3-1 win. Van der Wagg, a good all-round athlete, also had the last Coup De Grace for EA in the fourth quarter of the game.
Smyrna came on the board in the first quarter with a goal from AVA Elias, but Megan Evetian, a junior attacking midfielder, gave Episcopal a lead that it would never give up shortly after the interval.
The reason that this game is important is that Smyrna stamped herself as the top team in Delaware with a 3-2 overtime victory previous time-out against Lewes Cape Henlopen (el.). On the other hand, Episcopal Academy already has a victory over Pottstown Hill School (PA.) Already, who stamps them as a candidate for the Paisaa title match, which is played in a shadow for five weeks.
