Initiative offers students backpacks and school supplies

Saratoga Springs, NY-de New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) today announced the establishment of “Students To The Starting Gate”, an initiative linked to the donation of 500 backpacks containing essential school supplies to community organizations containing families in Queens, Nassau and Saratoga Counties.
On Tuesday 26 August, NYRA employees and the Saratoga Race Course Mascot, Gallop, will visit Saratoga City Center at 5 pm to distribute backpacks and school supplies to students at the Salvation Army from 2025 Back to School Expo.
“Young people deserve the tools to succeed at school, and we hope that these contributions will generate excitement for the coming school year,” said Robert Hines, manager of NYRA Community Affairs. “Nyra would like to thank the non-profit organizations and community organizations that collaborated with us in launching students at the Startpoort.”
Downstate offered NYRA students in the Elmont Union Free School District in Elmont, NY, with backpacks during an event on 9 August organized by the Jamaica Square Improvement League.
“New backpacks can help children feel confident, especially when they choose what they do,” said Claudine Hall, president of the Jamaica Square Improvement League. “This program helps to make a difference in the lives of many students and their families.”
In addition to the Salvation Army, Nyra donates backpacks to communities and non-profit organizations, including:
- Show Hearts Foundation (Queens County)
- Corinth Central School District (Saratoga County)
- Mechanicville Area Community Services Center (Saratoga County)
- Gateway Youth Outreach, Inc. (Nassau County)
- Franklin Community Center (Saratoga County)
- Universal Interactions (Nassau County)
Prior to the conclusion of the summer meeting of 2025 on Labor Day, September 1, Nyra Fans will thank with special offers for tickets and hospitality at the Saratoga Race Course during the last week of the summer meeting, Wednesday 27 August to Monday 1 September.
