Bartlett dominates Big Apple Finals with three wins

Vernon Downs hosted the Big Apple Finals for all 2-year-old running classes on Saturday (October 11). Driver Jason Bartlett rode three of the four winners as each class raced for $250,000.

Fragment (Bartlett) was dominant in the Big Apple Final for pacing colts and geldings.

Fragment ($2.30) came in first in the quarter at :25.4. Lakewood Nick (Yannick Gingras) was first in the challenge heading down the backstretch. Fragment led to the half in:55.2 and reached three quarters in 1:24.0.

Hunting Glory (Jordan Stratton), who finished in second place, went all out after the leader as they made the turn for home. Fragment then took over like a rocket, leaving everyone else in his dust as he won a lifetime best of 1:50.0. Ghost Hunt (Ray Schnttker) finished third.

FRAGMENT REPETITION

Fragment is a colt from Huntsville-The show returns. Trained by Per Engblom for owners Engblom Stable, D Sipple and Peacefull Acre Farm. It was his eighth career win.

Spencer Hanover (Bartlett) breaks track record in the Big Apple Final for trotting stallions and geldings.

Favorite AI (Yannick Gingras) took a break before the start. Twin B Seven Sins (Tyler Buter) led the quarter in:26.2. He then took a break heading into half time when Read The Room (Dylan Huckabone-Miller) then took the lead and went into half time first in: 54.2. Titans Mischief (Matt Kakaley) came around the final corner first. Read The Room led to three quarters in 1:25.4.

As they reached the stretch, Spencer Hanover ($6.92) continued his move three wide by taking his first career win and setting the track record for all two-year-old trotters in 1:52.3. Who’s Eyes Blues (Brett Beckwith) finished second. Titans Mischief had to settle for third place.

SPENCER HANOVER REPEAT

Spencer Hanover is a colt by Chapter seven-Secret passion. He is owned by Jeff Snyder and Arthur Pronti while trained by Marcus Melander.

Liberty Style (Bartlett) entered the quarter first in: 26.2. Long Shore ($5.44) flew down the backstretch first. Liberty Style had a brief lead at halftime: 55.4. Long Shore led until three-quarters in 1:23.3.

Starting in third place, Odds On Monetary (Ridge Warren) came out on top. Second-place Existential (Matt Kakaley) made a late bid, but Long Shore dug in and won in 1:51.4.

LONG COAST REPEAT

Long Shore is a filly by American Ideal-Butchie Beach. Joe Pavia Jr. trains for owners Vince Ferriero Jr., Dominic Pavia, Eric Prevost and Lon Frocione. It was her seventh career victory.

Storybook Love (Todd Ratchford) took over the lead and entered the quarter first in :27.0. Nezuko Kamado S ($5.06) then took command and led into halftime in:56.2. She controlled things to three-quarters in 1:26.1.

Storybook Love in second place and Sharp Seven (Jeff Gregory) in third place went all out after the leader, but Nezuko Kamado S was too strong and equaled the track record for 2-year-old trotting mares in 1:54.0.

Nezuko Kamado repeat

Nezuko Kamado S is a filly by Chapter Seven-Zefira Kronos It. She is owned by Courant Inc. and trained by Marcus Melander. Melander won the trotting final. Nezuko Kamado S has won five times.

Jason Bartlett rode a total of four winners. Leon Bailey rode five winners to the winner’s circle.

Vernon Downs returns to live racing on Friday (Oct. 17) with a post time of 5:05 p.m.
