NW Arkansas Championship canceled; Sponsors are doing well

This morning I received a press release from the LPGAs NW Arkansas Championship that seemed a bit fresh air in the current Miasma of unpleasantness.

Although fierce rains have ended the tournament after eighteen holes, the sponsors – Walmart and P&G – promised “to ensure that each player receives a fee, regardless of where they are on the rankings after 18 holes of playing.”

Here is a press release describing how the funds are distributed:

With the cancellation of the game on the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G, LPGA Tour officials announce that $ 2 million in prize money will be paid from the touring schedule -above the mandatory 50 percent per LPGA sanctioning.

$ 1.5 million (50 percent of the original wallet) will be distributed under the standard LPGA wallet distribution method to the top 65 and tires, based on the 18-hole results of Friday. The remaining $ 500,000 are evenly distributed over all 144 players in the field, each receiving $ 3,500.

The LPGA is very grateful to Walmart, P&G and tournament operator Outtryr for their generosity, their patience through the weather challenges and their non -repellent dedication to our players and the LPGA tour -they continue to imagine what a great partnership looks like.

The two megaorps will not miss the money (although some shareholders are allowed to flash), but I imagine that the players will all be grateful. As ‘independent contactors’ they travel to these tournaments on their own dime, have to organize their own room and board and pay for their caddies. If they miss a reduction, they have costs without income.
