A team from Katsumi Yoshida’s Northern Farm had made the journey from Hokkaido, Japan, to Kildare, Ireland, but encountered a rival Ace Stud camp as Enthralling entered the ring.
The two operations had head-to-head business starting at the €500,000 mark, but it was Yoshida’s men who ultimately won.
The 4 year old daughter of Galileo was bred and raced by Coolmore and presented by The Castlebridge Consignment on Friday evening.
She achieved just three placings from seven starts for Donnacha O’Brien, but made a big splash with her pedigree. She is the first foal out of Gossamer Wings, a winning daughter of Scat Daddy who was beaten by just a short head by Signora Cabello in the Queen Mary Stakes (G2).
This line makes Enthralling a closely related sister to Lambourn, who also won the Irish Derby (G1) and is a son of Galileo Australia; and the stylish 2-year-old Action who was last seen second to stablemate Hawk mountain in the Futurity Trophy (G1).
Her appeal became even greater when she was presented pregnant Camelot .
“There is a lot of future promise in this family tree,” said Northern Farm representative Tomo Tsuda, who was decked out in a Equinox cap. “I like the two-year-old, he will be really good next year. There is a lot of speed in this bloodline and to bring a mare like this back to Japan and cover her with our own stallions, that is our dream for the future.
“It was pretty strong competition, she was definitely the best mare in this draft. She has a very athletic walk and a strong backside. I loved her. She made a little above my budget, but we worked hard to get her.”
Tsuda added: “We haven’t decided yet which stallion she will go to, we will see how the Camelot foal is and then make a decision on who she will go to next year. We will go from here to Tattersalls and then travel to Arqana. European mares go very well with Japanese stallions.”

Serve Ace Returns
Ace Stud may have missed Enthralling, but the team enjoyed better luck earlier in the day landing Liber Nauticus, the only mare presented in foal to Night of Thunder for €420,000. The 15-year-old daughter of Azamour was offered by Studfarm Moyglare.
The mare herself ran only three times for Ballymacoll Stud and Sir Michael Stoute, but made her winning debut as a juvenile and then added the Musidora Stakes (G3) to her three-year-old bow.
She has already passed on much of her talent to her offspring, as her five paddock winners include noted scorer Miss Celestial and Trevaunance, who lowered the colors of Mqse De Sevigne to win the Prix de la Nonette (G2) in 2022.
There should be much more to come, because Liber Nauticus also has a yearling colt along It’s not you and a Kingman filly foal.
“Her pedigree speaks for itself and the first thing we noticed was the turnaround,” says Paul Curran, racing and bloodstock manager for Ace Stud. “We have been very lucky with the stallion this year. We were very happy with the purchase and we think we have her at a price that would allow you to come back to sales commercially with a Night Of Thunder and earn double that amount.
“That said, we will most likely foal her and race the foal ourselves. We are end users at the end of the day and we have tried many of his yearlings here and at Book 1 and Book 2. But if you can buy a mare of her quality, and with what she produces with the likes of Trevaunance, to get a Night Of Thunder out of her, whether it’s a colt or a filly, it’s quite a bit for that price. In a year or two you might be talking about astronomical figures for its shares.”

The Moyglare design also included Terrific. Galileo’s 14-year-old daughter, who was presented pregnant Sioux Nation went the way of Ballylinch Stud on a bid of €300,000.
Terrific is a full sister of one top winner in Together and is half-brother or sister of someone else Jan Vermeer . She has bred four winners, most notably the Siyouni filly Beauty who struck this year in the Flower Bowl Stakes (G2) for trainer Miguel Clement at Saratoga Race Course.
Terrific had already been through the ring twice and had raised a seven-figure sum both times. She joined Coolmore in 2012 when she was bought by Demi O’Byrne for 1.3 million guineas from Book 1 of the Tatttersalls October Yearling Sale. She was later resold to Moyglare for $1.9 million at the 2015 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.
On that day, Goffs reported that 194 lots had been sold out of 228 lots offered, with a clearance rate of 85%. That was an improvement over last year’s session score of 79%. Total revenue increased by 5% to €11,354,500 (US$13,072,209). The average fell 12% to €58,529 (US$67,383), while the median fell 30% to €30,000 (US$34,538).
The second and final session of the Goffs November Breeding Stock sale is on November 22nd
