Norris leads Piastri in First Hungarian General Practice | Racer

Lando Norris was at the top of the first practice session in the Hungarian Grand Prix, fractional for teammate and title leader Oscar Piastri.

Norris was the first of the two McLaren driver programs that started a soft-tire-run and set the first representative benchmark of the weekend at 1m16.052S. Piastri followed him, but the Australian completed two preparation rounds before he started his time attack. Despite the fact that he had set the fastest first sector, he gradually lost time around his lap to end almost 0.15s of the pace.

Both drivers returned to Pit Lane and returned to the same tires for their second attempts, but while a lock-up for Norris sent him back to the pits in the first turn, Piastri improved by setting a purple time in the middle sector to determine his last shortage at 0.019s.

Charles Leclerc completed the top three surprisingly close to the leading McLaren drivers. The Ferrari driver had been drifting for more than 0.7s after his first round, but found more than half a second with his second round on worn tires to end the session a heart -warming 0.217s of the pace.

The improved SF-25 was faster than both McLaren cars in the first sector, which include the first three turns and most of the front right.

Isack Hadjar was fourth for Racing Bulls, hit 0.629s from the pace to split Leclerc from teammate Lewis Hamilton, who was 0.053s further back.

Hamilton had a heavy session that started to confuse him with what started as a 1s gorge for Norris in the opening phase of the session. He returned to the pits and reported that the car did not “feel good” and when he joined softs again, he was 0.682’s from the pace, most of which came into the winding middle sector. He then suffered a huge lock-up in the first turn to prevent him from flying off the road, causing a set of softs to destroyed at the end of a difficult hour of running.

Oliver Bearman became sixth for Haas and 0.826s of the pace for Mercedes -Duo Andrea Kimi Antonelli and George Russell, the couple closely correspond to 0.828s and 0.873s of the pace.

Russell started the session with a “long and spongy” brake pedal and ended it complained that he “can’t even turn the car”.

Max Verstappen was an anonymous ninth and 0.888s slower than Norris. Lance Stroll completed the top 10 for Aston Martin at 0.906s of the pace.

Alex Albon was the fastest in the first sector on the way to the 11th for the 11th for Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly, the Frenchman who joined the session after a loss of current to report only 10 minutes in the hour. Liam Lawson became 14th in the second Racing Bulls car after his flying round was interrupted after he had met teammate Hadjar.

Carlos Sainz reported a braking problem – Radio that would let go of his car the brakes despite raising the pedal – on his way to the 15th.

Felipe Drugovich Deputte for Fernando Alonso at Aston Martin And ended the session 16th and 1.2s of the pace.

Drugovich received a late call-up after Alonso withdrew from FP1 with muscle pain in his back as a result of last weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix. The 25-year-old Brazilian has been from Aston Martin’s reserve driver since 2022, when he won the F2 championship, and had six previous FP1 performances for today, but never started a Grand Prix. Aston Martin says it will call about the fitness of Alonso as the weekend continues.

Yuki Tsunoda took the second Red Bull Racing car to the 17th in the order of complaints of a lack of a lack of through the corner, so he was unable to push.

Franco Colapinto was 18th for Gabriel Bortoleto, who only completed 17 laps before he was withdrawn from the session with 15 minutes.

Aron, third in last year’s Formula 2 championship, is an Alpine reserve driver, but is lent to Sauber to help the Swiss team to fulfill his obligation to juniors in four practice sessions in Veldvelden. The Estonia ordered Nico Hulkenberg’s car and ended the hour 3.7s of the pace.
