Norgaard calls set pieces an ‘important weapon’ for Arsenal

Christian Norgaard was pleased after Arsenal’s threat helped the club to a comeback win at Portsmouth in the FA Cup third round.

Arsenal fell behind the second-tier side within three minutes, but turned the game around to emerge 4-1 winners at Fratton Park.

Set-pieces were again important as Arsenal scored three times from dead-ball deliveries. An own goal brought the sides level, before Gabriel Martinelli scored a hat-trick for the north Londoners.

It is the third time this season that Arsenal have scored more than two goals from set-pieces in a single match, more than any other Premier League team.

Norgaard, who helped score the Gunners’ equalizer, admitted this is something the club is keen to specialize in.

“In the beginning they were better than us and could have gone up twice, but then we got the momentum. In the second half we could have scored more than four goals,” Norgaard told TNT Sport.

“The start wasn’t good enough. I think we were as well prepared as we could have been. With this weather and these conditions it’s never easy in the cup games and the honor goes to Portsmouth.”

“It’s important in our games, but it’s important in every team,” he added when discussing Arsenal’s threat.

“Of course we emphasize it a lot, but it is a very important part of our game and it is an important weapon of ours. We will continue to develop it and use it when we need it.”
