The Malaysian government has no plans to upgrade the FT2 Federal Highway despite the route recording the heaviest traffic levels based on 2024 traffic data. New Straits Times.
The decision was made as the proposal to upgrade the 34.59km route between Kuala Lumpur and Port Klang is no longer economically viable due to the high cost of acquiring land and assets, as well as the potential social impact if the highway improvement project goes ahead, said Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
“Based on 2024 traffic data, the level of service (LOS) on the FT2 Federal Highway at Census Station BR101 was recorded at ‘LOS F’, indicating heavy traffic flow, similar to FT28 of the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) at Census Station BR903,” Nanta said during a question and answer session at the Dewan Negara today, the report said.

Meanwhile, the Works Minister said in August this year that the Federal Highway will receive an allocation of RM20 million for motorway modernization, although there are no plans to add more motorway on other major roads.
The government should conduct extensive studies before building new cycle paths to avoid new conflicts on roads with numerous entrances and exits, Nanta said at the time.
