Chelsea made the decision to bring Liam Delap and Joao Pedro to the club last summer to solve their goalscoring problems, as Nicolas Jackson failed to make the impact many had hoped for following his move from Spanish football.
However, both Delap and Pedro have been very inconsistent this season, while Jackson was sent to Bayern Munich to take him off the books for a season. But the summer window will give Chelsea the chance to clear the deadwood and also add some quality to that attack.
Now, amid the speculation, Cundy believes there could be a shake-up among Chelsea’s attackers in the summer, with Jackson likely to be sold. He also claims a move to Bayern Munich could actually turn into a permanent £70m transfer: “It feels like Jackson is leaving,” he told TalkSport. “It feels like that bridge has been burned, even though there is a new manager.
“My assessment would be that Liam Delap might be loaned out, that could be an option.
“He’s feeling a bit raw, he’s had one season in the Premier League. Maybe he should start playing every week.”
IcFootballnews says…
There are times at Chelsea and Bayern Munich when Jackson looks like a striker who can score 30 goals a season, but he simply cannot produce the consistent performances that would make him a top striker.
If Cundy is right and Chelsea manage to secure £70m for Jackson in the summer window, they will be very lucky as he is likely to be worth only half that. But he is right when he says Jackson is probably done at Stamford Bridge and will leave.
The Blues have big plans and receiving his £250,000-a-week wages will be a huge help in their quest to continue to grow the squad.
